Occasionally it is necessary to replace an element of a building when its structural integrity and function has been lost. This may be due to the weather or the expansion of rusting iron fixings. These repairs are often too large to be carried out using a lime mortar repair (see below). In this situation the appropriate materials and fixings are selected to ensure a sensitive repair within the buildings context.
