Lime Pointing

Lime Pointing

The widespread use of cement pointing where the original building fabric is constructed of lime mortar disrupts the buildings ability to ‘breathe’. Lime mortar pointing acts as a sacrificial element allowing moisture to escape through the mortar joints. Re pointing will be more cost effective than large-scale stone replacement.

Before any repointing work is carried out, carefully selected sands are blended together to make various mortar samples. These are left to dry over a period of days. Making these samples at an early stage gives the opportunity to produce a mortar as close as possible in colour and texture.
