Lime Mortar Repairs
A lime mortar repair or plastic repair can be used to repair damaged masonry rather than replacing the entire piece. A blend of sands and stone dusts are mixed with either lime putty or natural hydraulic lime. A variety of mortar samples are made to determine an ideal match. Mortar repairs are generally carried out on a small scale and are suitable for sheltered locations. Larger repairs can be successfully carried out using stainless steel armatures.
Mortar repairs are an ideal repair technique where a stone indent would not be possible or involve excessive intervention. Also, the original stone may no longer be available. Large and more exposed repairs should be carried out with stone indents providing a cost-effective, long-term solution.
