About Us

Abacus Stone Conservation is a Devon based business located near Exeter. The business is owned and run by David Cornick. After completing a degree in Architecture, David pursued a career in stone masonry. This has led to both an academic and practical approach to all masonry and conservation work.

Working for over 13 years’ as a stonemason travelling throughout the mainland and Channel islands David has accumulated experience and knowledge of a wide variety of materials and buildings.

Abacus Stone Conservation is experienced in providing advice and undertaking architectural stonework repairs, lime mortar pointing, lime mortar repairs, lime renders and lime plasters.

All work is carried out to a high standard. Communication with the client is maintained throughout the programme of works allowing time for discussions about important details and overseeing and maintaining the project budget.

Abacus Stone Conservation specialises in work to ecclesiastical, historic and listed properties in and around Exeter, Devon & the South West.

Clients include English Heritage, Local Authorities, parish churches and private clients.

Previous Projects

Private House, Weymouth

Localised areas of decayed lime pointing were raked out and re-pointed in hydraulic lime mortar. The colour of the mortar was made to compliment the colour of the stonework.

Aylesbeare Church

Following the Quinquennial Inspection of Aylesbeare Church, we carried out several areas of lime mortar repointing, lime render, internal replacement of lime plaster, limewash and stone mortar repairs.
